The official opening of Fethiye International Group’s new shop on Monday 2nd February
attracted a good deal of local interest.
The charity’s volunteers, under the guidance of shop manager, Linda Jones, have worked
hard over recent weeks to refurbish the large, new Patlangıç premises.
By Fethiye for Fethiye
The shop is filled with clothes, books and many other useful items, all generously
donated by the people of Fethiye and holiday makers.
Over the past decade the FIG charity shop has become one of the most popular
places to donate or buy second hand clothes: there are some real bargains to be found.
The Fethiye based organisation’s decision to move to larger premises, just a short
walk down the main road from the Patlangıç Saturday market site, will certainly
increase local footfall.
Open for business
Sheila Tongue and FETAV treasurer and British Honorary Consul, Mustafa Şıkman
made short speeches and then the door opened.
FIG supporters piled in as customers searched for a bargain,
munched on a slice of cake provided by loyal FIG helpers, Pat Goldsmith Doug and Ann Jones
or admired the wonderful mural painted by Ann Cohen.
FIG spokesperson, Sheila Tongue told Fethiye Times:
Everything has gone really well and the opening was a great success.
This is due to the incredibly hard work by the FIG team and wonderful
generosity from our supporters.
I would particularly like to thank Anne Cohen, the talented artist who
painted the mural, Eren Spot and Apple Estates maintenance team who
provided a lot of materials and support.
Without all this help, from everyone involved, we would never have been
able to open on time.”
Mustafa Şıkman reminded everyone of the importance of charity in a community such
as Fethiye and how it brings a community closer together.
