We don’t write about places unless we like them, so you can be sure than when we say we’ve run out of hyperbole to described the food at the Yacht Classic, you’d better believe that our meal there last week was good. Very good indeed. It was better than best. It was about a year ago that we last went there, but we won’t wait so long next time, and are counting the weeks until we can go there again. After all, there is a whole menu waiting to be tried and we’ve only just scratched the surface.
There are occasions when the relaxed elegance of Yacht Classic makes it the perfect location. Special occasions, like birthdays, anniversaries, or just because you feel like it; the restaurant at this delightful venue now sets the gold standard for silver service anywhere on the Turkish coast. So if you’re for somewhere to dine out in style in Fethiye, as far as we’re concerned, this is the place to go.
With this in mind, last week the FT team had a wonderful evening there, sitting next to the water under the full blue moon. How much better can it get than that?
The drinks were cold, the crisp white linen and silver service was just so. Service was discreet and polite, yet friendly.
Where to begin?
After some deliberation, we eventually chose the avocado with prawns and sea bass ceviche for the first courses: both were perfection in terms of presentation and taste.
For the main course, again we had problems deciding but our charming waiter recommended that we share a mixed grill of fish and seafood for two. It arrived on a silver tray, imaginatively presented on a ‘çay’ tray, and included prawns, octopus, filets of fish, with a separate jug (actually it was a cevze) containing a rich buttery sauce. Every mouthful of the feast was exquisitely prepared and cooked.
So enthralled were we by the whole gastronomic experience we continued to order desserts… crème brulée and lemon cheesecake. If we hadn’t have been at such an elegant venue, you can be sure we would have licked our plates unashamedly. It was only then we realized that we had forgotten to take photos of one of the first courses, both the main course and the puds. That’s what happens when you are on a sensory journey of delight.
All round winner
There is an excellent and comprehensive wine list, but as it was very hot, we stayed with spritzer, which was served in tall chilled glasses with loads of ice. Chilled water was also on the table.
We cannot recommend the Yacht Classic highly enough, and this may go some way to explaining why Louis de Bernières, Daniel Craig and Russell Crowe amongst other celebrities have all chosen to stay there.
Afiyet olsun everyone!
