Naughty but definitely nice!
With franchised fast food outlets popping up all over Fethiye during the last few years it is a pleasure to welcome an independent and original, albeit rather high calorie, place to snack.
Renk Waffle is the creation of Cem and Deniz Dinçer and their friends and last week the young team opened Renk Waffle’s shutters to those in search of sweet and tasty indulgences:
home made waffles served with an eye watering variety of toppings.
Renk is Turkish for colour, and the brightly decorated waffles certainly have plenty of that! Equally, the red, white and cream shop front makes for cheerful, relaxing atmosphere.
Guilt is not a menu option
Waffles have never been so tempting. Chocoholics and those with a sweet tooth can go for the works:
caramel, white chocolate, milk chocolate and pistachio, are just a few of the delicious sauce options.
If you need a bigger sugar rush there are sweeties galore to pile on top.
Guilt but probably not calories can be appeased with a generous sprinkling of nuts and slices of fresh fruit.
And there you have it in all it’s decadent glory – a Renk Waffle!
A Fethiye family
Dilek Dinçer, mother of Cem and Deniz, is one of Fethiye’s most well known faces; she is the manager and board director of FETAV (the town’s Tourism, Promotion, Education, Culture and Environment Foundation).
It is under FETAV’s umbrella that FIG, 3C’s, Animal Aid and other organisations exist and are supported.
The Dinçer children, daughter Deniz and son, Cem, created the Renk Waffle concept with their cousin and friends.
Kitted out, like the rest of their team, in bright red aprons, together they provide friendly, smiling and efficient service.
Although she has no apron, Dilek has already been spotted helping out in the busy kitchen after the FETAV office has closed for the day.
The young, enthusiastic team have taken research and marketing very seriously for their new enterprise.
A course on making waffles from scratch (no ready made products here) and an imaginative array of toppings to choose from has already made Renk Waffle a hit with their customers.
As Renk Waffle becomes established they intend to add crepes, savoury and sweet, to their menu.
Çay and homemade lemonade
No Turkish eatery, of any description, would be complete without tulip-shaped glasses of çay and a shining new samovar is humming away in the bright, clean, well-equipped kitchen, ready for top ups.
They also serve tangy homemade lemonade, complete with ice and a sprig of mint.
The FT team wishes the Dinçer family all the best for their business enterprise.
Opened last Sunday by Fethiye’s mayor, Behçet Saatçı, it already has the support of the town, not least because the waffles are completely irresistible.
With its bright red and white chairs and tables, Renk Waffle is on the corner of 502 Sokak (street), opposite the front of the Fethiye Culture Centre (Theatre), is difficult to miss.
